SHORTEST POLITICAL CAREER?

Maybe one of the shortest political careers on record. Below you will see the article from the South Shields Gazette. In the morning Simon Brodkin's alter ego Lee Nelson was standing to become MP for South Shields by 4pm his nomination had been withdrawn. So that is about 6 hours. Is that a world record?

TV funnyman Nelson claimed today he is to stand for Parliament in the by-election for David Miliband’s former South Shields seat.
The character, created by funnyman Simon Brodkin and who has his own BBC3 series, said he intends to contest the election on May 2 after handing in his nomination papers.
He will contest the election as Nelson, standing for Lee Nelson’s Well Good Party, and read out a speech on the steps of the Town Hall in South Shields.
He was meeting and greeting the townsfolk on King Street today
