ALL OVER BAR THE VOTING AS BIG MONEY BETS BACK UKIP IN ROCHESTER
WILLIAM HILL have slashed their odds for UKIP to win the Rochester
& Strood by-election from 1/33 to 1/100 (stake £100 to win a profit
of £1) after an overnight surge of hefty wagers from political punters -
a client from Coventry staked £16,500; one from Cheltenham bet £12,000
and an online customer staked £5000.
'UKIP did at one time drift out to 11/10 to win this by-election and at
that time the Tories were odds-on and we took bets of up to £300 for
them, but recently all of the money has been for a UKIP win and their
odds have now shortened to the point where they are virtually
unbackable' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.'It is all over, bar the
voting!'
Hills now offer the Tories at 16/1 and Labour at 100/1, while the Lib
Dems are an astonishing 10/1 to RETAIN their deposit - and 1/33 to lose
it.
William Hill believe a UKIP win could well spark further defections
amongst sitting MPs and are offering Evens that two or more MPs will
leave their Party for UKIP between the Rochester result and the General
Election; 7/2 that just one will do so; and 6/4 that none at all does
so.
