ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT General Election markets to predict is how many seats Ukip will end up with, say bookmakers William Hill.
'Ukip are either poised on the verge of a breakthrough, or on the brink of disaster, at the General Election' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe,'But noone seems to know for sure which it will be. We see polls saying Nigel Farage won't be elected, yet he is favourite to take South Thanet with political punters; of their existing MPs, Mark Reckless is defending a majority in Rochester & Strood but is only second favourite, while Douglas Carswell is a red hot favourite to retain Clacton. I know this Election is likely to see a great amount of tactical voting, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was already some tactical betting going on, as well.'
Hills make Ukip 11/10 to win 5 or more seats; 9/4 to take 3 or 4; 11/4 for one or two and 14/1 to win none at all. The Party is 16/1 to join a coalition government as a result of the General Election.
Should Nigel Farage fail to be elected he has said he will stand down as Ukip leader - and Hills make Douglas Carswell and Patrick O'Flynn 5/2 joint favourites to succeed him with Diane James at 5/1.
