There are 11 by-elections identified during March, although in one a candidate has been returned unopposed, along with 2 already in April. A further 5 vacancies are known where the election has as yet no date along with 3 impending resignations so the vacancy can be filled on 7th May. So far 35 vacancies have been identified under the "six month" rule together with 9 long standing vacancies which will not be filled ahead of elections in May.
There are thus 23 by-elections for 24 seats scheduled so far in the January to April 2015 period ahead of the main elections in May, slightly more than the 22 contested during the same period in 2011.
