List of upcoming council by elections and vacant seats

There are 3 by-elections during April bringing the total to 24 for 25 seats in the January to April 2015 period ahead of the elections in May, compared to the 22 contested during the same period in 2011. 

So far 46 vacancies have been identified under the "six month" rule together with 9 long standing vacancies which will not be filled ahead of elections in May. This compares to 64 under the "six month" rule in 2011.

There were 21 by-elections held at the same time as the May 2011 elections along with 27 "double elections compared to 40 by-elections and 16 "double" elections so far identified in the coming May main elections.
